Pad-spacer insert for Shimano RS405 hydraulic brake calipers (Y8N218000 replacement)
thingiverse
This item can be inserted into the Shimano Tiagra RS405 hydraulic brake calipers to secure the brake pistons against accidental actuation of the brake lever when the wheel with the brake-disc is removed from the bike. Such actuation might push the brake pistons too far and thus cause damage. Such pad-inserts are to be used whenever the brake-disc is removed from inside the caliper, e.g., when one services or transports the bike without the wheels in place.I designed this as a DIY replacement for the original Shimano pad-spacer Y8N218000. I still have the original which came with my bike, but only one and I am afraid that it can be easily lost during transport, so I wanted backups. Note, that the original Y8N218000 pad spacer has guiding-protrusions on both sides, my design has such protrusions on one side for easier printability. I think it is still almost as easy to insert in the right position into thee caliper as the original, but it still needs a litte care. The pictures show both the original (darker orange piece in the middles) and two DIY ones. I have flipped the original in the second picture, while the DIY ones remained the same position (to demonstrate the differences in the guiding-protrusions).I suppose this pad spacer can be used in any other calipers compatible with the K05S-RX and L05A-RF brake pads beyond the mere RS405 calipers.
