Packard V-1650-7 Starter Engaging Mechanism
grabcad
During World War II, Packard Motor Cars secured a license from Britain's top luxury car manufacturer to produce its celebrated V-12 engine, known as the Merlin 66, in America for use in US warplanes. As a result, the Packard V-1650 emerged, one of the most widely recognized and popular aircraft engines utilized in US aircraft. This is a comprehensive model of the starter motor engaging mechanism, assembly 609970 for the V-1650-7, which powers the P-51 Mustang. One challenge I faced was finding an effective tutorial on crafting involute shaft splines. Two parts require a 6-spline shaft interface, but I couldn't complete them, leaving these components incomplete at this stage. Please refer to my previous model: Packard V-1650-7 Engine Starter Motor. Note that if you've already downloaded the starter motor, there's been an update to the bevel gear connecting it to this assembly. Visit the starter motor page to download the revised part. I'd appreciate your feedback on this project.
