The Pachta family were Czech aristocrats who owned their own coat of arms, bestowed upon them by Emperor Franz Ferdinand in 1628. They possessed several buildings in Prague's Old Town, with one notable property being the Pachta Palace, a popular destination for travelers and dignitaries alike. At one point, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was among its esteemed guests, having been invited by Jan Josef Pachta, the palace owner at the time, who shared his passion for music. It is recorded that this was the only known meeting between Mozart and Casanova, with a suite in the palace still bearing the composer's name, known as the Mozart suite. The Pachta Palace stands as an iconic landmark, now housing the Smetana hotel, whose main entrance features a lion statue.
