Pac-Man
thingiverse
Pac-Man enthusiasts will love this small, one-piece fun print featuring a mouth that opens wide and closes tight shut, just like Pac-Man himself. Two .stl's are provided: a "just for fun" model and another with a key fob fitting in the most practical spot for reliable printing. A larger, more practical version of this design is my Pac-Man Containers available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1754407. In this file, the mouth parts are internally moving drawers to store small items like mints or sweets. This print should be easy to make in PLA on any machine with a good slicing app and accurate printing settings, including a filament fan. The fine detail and clearances require attention, but when printed well, they work great and amaze people. To print this design, place the build plate face down (as indicated by the .stl's provided) to keep the internal parts separate from the outer structure. Adequate clearances have been applied for most machines, allowing the mouth to move freely off the build plate once the raft is removed. Do not use automated support as it will permanently fuse the parts together. While this print does not require support, a raft with 4-5mm outsetting may be necessary for good build plate adhesion through minimal contact areas. If the parts stick and won't move post-printing, apply gentle pressure to free them up. Check for excess filament in the mouth area causing the parts to fuse together slightly. 3D prints with moving parts often don't rotate smoothly due to rough or imperfect surfaces coming into contact with each other. To make the mouth parts rotate smoothly and fast, spray a quick layer of silicone lubricant (refer to images). For additional information, please refer to the print settings and instructions, which have been tested numerous times on Makerbot Replicator 2's and 5th Gen. MakerBots with consistently great results. Note: If you like this design, check out my other fun and practical designs, and post your Pac-Man prints! Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: Standard / 0.20mm Infill: 2 shells / 20% or more infill. Notes: Prints well in PLA on machines with a filament fan, which is necessary due to the extreme angles used. Do not use automated support as it will fuse the internal moving parts. Post-Printing: Remove the raft and free up the mouth parts for fun! On a well-set-up machine and with a good slicing app, the mouth parts should move easily post-printing. Just gently push on the tabs and/or internal mouth parts to start the rotation. If not, chances are it's due to excess filament around the mouth area. Clean it away and your mouth parts will be free to move. If the mouth parts don't rotate smoothly (due to internal 3D printed surface texture), a light spray with some silicone lubricant can get them moving with next to no friction.
