During this hands-on demonstration, we will explore the basics of polargraphs. A polargraph is a unique type of machine that allows users to create vector drawings with precise lines and smooth curves. After discussing how polargraphs work, we will dive into the Polargraph Controller Software. Throughout this workshop, you'll learn the ins-and-outs of setting up and operating the Polargraph Controller software. We'll show you the basic setup process, highlighting the different features and tools available within the software. During the demos, we will create vector drawings with precise lines and demonstrate rastering techniques that produce high-quality shaded images. These images take a bit more time to complete than the sharp line drawings but are truly impressive. As you watch, we'll delve into spirographs and explain how this versatile drawing method is perfect for polargraph users. If you want to get creative, learn how to make your own designs using gnuplot on Linux-based machines! Hands-on activity begins with demonstrations, after which attendees who brought laptops will have the chance to install the Polargraph software and draw a quick test vector image. This software is essential for polargraph use and requires a separate download beforehand; link provided below. Don't forget that a netbook is also available on site for users without a laptop. Although operating this program can be tricky due to screen size limitations, our attendees have found the experience quite engaging!
