P2020 3D Printer
thingiverse
This is my big P2020 3D printer. It took roughly three months to build in my spare time. I already have an M3D, which is a terrible printer, and a Chinese i3 clone. I wanted a printer with the rigidity of the M3D and print quality better than the i3 at a larger print volume. So I modeled the design after a mix between the CR-10 and the Lulzbot Taz 6. Here's a video of it printing. https://youtu.be/w-Ai7Jbp3DQ The printer specs are as follows: 640mm wide, 450mm tall, 440mm deep. It has a build volume of 300x300x300mm. The power supply is a 12V 30A DC unit. I also installed an external heater module for the bed. Additionally, it features an E3D V6 hot end and Noctua fans. For control, I used a Geeetech GT2560. I added drag chains that are 10x20mm in size. The wiring is silicone jacketed where necessary. I chose to use a 2020 80/20 extrusion frame for this build, which I highly recommend over 80/20 t-slot due to its wider opening. For the x and z axes, I used 2020 v-slot extrusion with mini v-slot wheels and plates. The y axis uses 2060 v-slot extrusion with large sized wheels and a universal plate. I was surprised by how heavy it turned out, but it's very solid nonetheless. This means I can print with it on its side without any issues. Moreover, I can pick it up while it prints without affecting the quality of my prints. One of the best features is that it's completely modular. I've even thought about building one with a rotated frame and electronics at the bottom, similar to an Ultimaker. If you're planning on making this printer, please let me know if you need any advice or have questions regarding sourcing parts or overcoming hurdles. For example, I de-jacketed an Ethernet cable for use as longer wires for my fans and print head sensors. The wire inside these cables meets the specs required by most applications and can be easily cut to size. Let me know what you think! I sourced many of the components from Amazon, where I took advantage of their "free" two-day shipping with Prime.
