Oxytocin is the ‘cuddle’ hormone. It has a huge number of roles in the body, from helping labor and childbirth, bonding with the baby and breastfeeding to social behaviours such as generosity, trust, attachment and bonding. It has also been called the ‘love hormone’ and is even involved in arousal and orgasm! Oxytocin is cyclic peptide hormone made up of 9 amino acids. This model is the ‘licorice’ view of its structure.
