Owl statue with Voronoi style cavity
thingiverse
I wanted to recreate an Owl statue remix inspired by Guidoo's original. The result has all the intricate details of the original, with a unique Voroni-style cage covering not only the inner surface but also made thicker and smoother for better quality. The cage part can be left partially open for effect during the printing process. I had in mind adding a shiny coin or marble inside it just for fun, while considering other decorative ideas such as a pre-printed egg within the cave's depths. For added convenience, a low-poly version of the model is now available if the high-resolution one proves too demanding for printouts. Some minute details might be lost but this variant will do its part to serve. Regarding print settings, feel free to experiment without supports or opt-in depending on specific needs, bearing in mind possible overhang challenges during the cage printing process. Here's an inside scoop into how I designed this impressive owl statue: First, loaded the original stl file from MeshMixer and went ahead to smoothen out the chest part – not just for looks but to make it fit perfectly when combined with TinkerCAD where such modifications are supported up to a cap of 300000 polygons. Upon completion in TinkerCAD, I hollowed out an appropriate shape and got my hands on Voroni's work by molding a perfect sphere in accordance to our shared aim. And before finally integrating all parts together, I worked meticulously through numerous steps so everything flows together in harmony as expected.
