This is a set of gripper/extensions that attach to the OWI-535 Robotic Arm Edge, making it easier to collect pennies for the 2017 Division C Science Olympiad. The design is fully compliant with rules but verify dimensions before using this setup. The OWI Penny Gripper requires no modifications to the OWI-535, adds approximately 15mm to reach, and gives the OWI-535 the capability to grasp a stack of pennies up to 30mm in height. The griper can also grab other objects, but it was specifically designed for collecting pennies. Additionally, a variant of the original design is included for use with older bots featuring thicker foam on the end effector. This version requires the original foam to be installed. Design Project: Project Apollo Required Printed Parts: * 2x OWI Adapter bolt (or OWI Adapter bolt Deep) * 2x Gripper Mid 30mm Needed Hardware: * 2x M3x16 Bolts (available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W97MTII/) * 4x M3 nuts (available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NBIH92/) * Some 3ALink Sound Dampening Mat Installation Instructions: Insert the M3x16 bolts through the concave side of the Gripper Mid 30mm, pushing the bolt head into the part until it is flush with the concave side. Pass the M3x16 bolt with the Gripper Mid 30mm attached through the hole on the OWI Adapter bolt (or OWI Adapter bolt Deep), ensuring the Gripper Mid 30mm cannot freely rotate. Install two M3 nuts onto the end of the M3x16 bolt, securing the position of the grippers or allowing them to self-level by locking the nuts away from the plastic. Apply foam to the concave side of the Gripper Mid 30mm as needed. Design Information: The OWI-535 Penny gripper is a simple, no-modification-required add-on for the OWI-535 that enables it to pick up more than a few pennies at a time. Fortunately, this design had the added effect of adding just enough length to the OWI-535 with the OWI-535 Gamma Mods to reach the north pennies in the 2017 Robot Arm event from Science Olympiad. The adapter is designed to fit tightly on the original foam of the OWI-535. Some minor sanding may be necessary to make it easier to slide on. The OWI-535 Penny Gripper should not slide off under normal operations. If it does, then the adapter may have been over-sanded or you need to use the baseline adapter instead of the deep variant.
