Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows on May 24, 2016. This game is described as a "hero shooter," where players are assigned to two teams of six. Each player selects from over 30 characters, known as "heroes," each with unique play styles divided into three categories: offense, defense, and support. Players work together to secure control points on the map or escort a payload across the map within a time limit. Players earn cosmetic rewards like character skins and victory poses that do not affect gameplay. The game was initially launched with casual play, followed by competitive ranked mode, various arcade game modes, and a customizable server browser. Blizzard has added new characters, maps, and game modes post-release for free, with optional loot boxes to buy cosmetic items.
