Overnight Sensations
thingiverse
After crafting custom teardrop shape enclosures for the Dayon PS95's, I decided it was time to take on the Overnight Sensations. My first Overnight Sensations kit dates back to 2010 and has been a joy ever since. With the CR-10 purchase, I knew I'd eventually create enclosures for them, and here they are. Initially finished a couple of months ago, these designs were presented at DIY Iowa 2017. Now, I'm finally uploading them. I want to emphasize that this was an experiment, as most projects in life are. This design isn't the best, nor is it an improvement over Paul Carmody's original. Some might argue a spherical enclosure is ideal for speaker enclosures; I based my design on this theory, but my creation has one major flaw – the port is situated right behind the 4" driver, resulting in half of the mid-range sound escaping straight out the back. If you decide to print these, keep that in mind and have fun with it. I also want to note that while the enclosure shape was altered, the internal volume and port volume remained true to Paul's original design. That's my story in a nutshell. I printed them at 0.2mm layer height, which took around 70 hours per side. You might be able to improve on this time, but I wasn't in a rush when printing them. Make sure to print it baffle-side down (the STL file orientation is unclear) and use support material for the baffle mount as well as the port. Feel free to offer tips if you'd like, but don't feel obligated. If you do end up printing these, I'd love to see your results!
