The concept for this lamp came from a posting from someone who wanted to make a lamp from overlapping curved slabs. I thought that a good way to make something like that would be to use a circular array of triangular sections extruded from a basic spiral curve. The fact that a spiral curves in on itself allows a space for light to shine out between the slabs. My original design extruded the spiral section straight up to a point, but this produced a fairly uninteresting flat sided slab shape when the extrusions were arranged in a circle. So instead of a straight extrusion I switched to a Loft shape based on 3 spiral section curves arranged vertically. I made the top curve very tiny so the lamp would come to a point at the top. This lamp will accommodate any one of several LED lights called "puck" lights. You can get these powered by either batteries of wall power. This blog page has links for wall powered lights that work well: http://birkbinnard.com/blog/wall-powered-led-lights/. For many more options just Google "led puck lights."
