Overhead Filament Support Hub Set

Overhead Filament Support Hub Set

thingiverse

A while back, I designed and printed a set of overhead filament brackets from Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/make:541868). Initially, I used a bare rod to support the reels of filament but soon realized it would be much better with smoother rotation. To achieve this, I created this set of hubs. The threaded centers are designed to fit perfectly on an 8mm rod, whether it's threaded or not. I also included lock nuts in my design, but found them unnecessary in my setup, so the optional shorter threaded center was born. It takes a few hours to print the complete set, including the center, hubs, and locks, but I believe it's worth it for the smooth rotation of the reel on the support. I printed them all with a small raft on my Anet A8 at 200° C hotend and 50° C bed (Anycubic Ultrabase with stock heatbed). Surprisingly, neither the threaded center nor hubs required any supports during printing. When assembling the pieces for the first time, you may find that they require some "working in" to get them to fit together smoothly. Be cautious not to force it or cross-thread them, as I almost damaged a hub by doing so.
