I needed a makeshift overhead stand to capture Instagram videos from directly above my custom-made desk, which I crafted out of 28mm kitchen panel material. To accomplish this, I designed several components using materials readily available: a 20mm broomstick and a 10x10mm extruded aluminum tube. The design is surprisingly straightforward. The extruded tube serves as the side frame, while the broomstick functions as the cross-bar, connected to the printed parts. This combination provides a stable base for my makeshift stand. To secure the desk clamps to the 28mm panel, I opted to use screws for now. However, I plan to design more universal clamp designs in the future to accommodate various panel thicknesses. A wood screw holds the broomstick in place through the upper part of the printed component, and I also included holes for zip ties to provide additional support. To connect the stand to my LED panels, ball-head, and smartphone clamp, I utilized cheap Amazon "Neewer CN-126" LED panels along with a Manfrotto ball-head and a smartphone clamp featuring a T-shaped port. This setup allows me to easily attach and detach my camera rig as needed. While this makeshift stand may not be the most rigid option available, it serves its purpose effectively at an affordable price point.
