Overhang uniformity benchmark
thingiverse
Got a new print cooling fan or just curious about your printer's overhang performance? This test is the perfect benchmark to evaluate your printers' capabilities. The part comes in multiple varieties depending on your needs and how thorough you want to be with your testing. A range of overhangs from 25° all the way to 90° allows for a comprehensive assessment, even for top-of-the-line printers. An integrated gauge provides a point of reference, letting you see exactly how well your printer performed. Each line on the gauge represents a 5° change in overhang angle. I recommend printing the Overhang_benchmark_FULL.stl model to get an all-around performance reading, but tests for each axis (X and Y) and single direction are also available. A brim or raft isn't needed because of the large flat bottom. My cooling setup for the test features a single 5015 blower fan at full speed, with air directed into two ducts flanking the nozzle. The filament used is PLA printed at 210°C with a speed of 50mm/s and outer walls at 40mm/s. Have fun benchmarking your printer's capabilities, and don't forget to share your results!
