Overhang Calibration Easy and Fast
thingiverse
In addition to my Easy Calibration part, which I utilize for all filaments, I sought out a tool to simply reveal the overhangs that actually work. As my overhangs often are not just on one side (and influenced by the position of the cooling fan), I opted for an Overhang Calibration like a vase, which gives me a straightforward clue as to what is working and what are the problems. Overhang Calib3 prints rapidly in under 30 minutes and displays exactly where issues occur. Thin walls (1mm) with engraved angles ranging from 40° to 60°. Reveals: - The angle that works with the desired layer height - Differences around the part depending on the cooling position - Deformation of thin walls - Stringing and overextrusion - Not enough partial cooling -> minimal layer time - Slipping filament -> too hot or layer height too large for this overhang Alongside my Easy Calibration tool (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1023717), this is my most frequently used calibration device to calibrate my filaments. It has also rendered the Layer Bonding Calibration tool (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2182560) unnecessary; I now use it exclusively for ABS or very critical materials. Enjoy!
