Overengineered Center Line Marking Tool

Overengineered Center Line Marking Tool

I created this to mark the center-line in wood-working.The existing solutions, such as this excellent one by @cewo, while being much simpler, required holding the tool at an angle, so that the tension of the tool against the wood centers the hole. For me this was a bit unnatural in terms of my hand position requiring me to keep constant rotational force while moving the tool, while also has the disadvantage of not being able to complete the mark all the way to the edge (as one pin drops off the edge, the tool is no longer centered). My (overengineered) solution requires only my fingers to keep tension on the sides (closing the clamp), and I can slide it all the way to the edge with marking remaining in the center. The clamp can work from 1cm all the way to 14.5cm (in this wide an opening, clamping down both sides becomes quite hard, but you can get away with only one, as the second will mirror the position of the first).Printed this in PLA and only had to clean up the gear and shaft a bit so they rotate more smoothly (file down seams a bit).
