People: Native Americans of Pomo culture Location: Coastal regions of Mendocino, Sonoma, Lake counties Timeframe: Early 1900s manufacturing period Materials used: Willow shoots (Salix species), sedge grass roots (Carex species), bulrush roots (Scirpus species) Physical characteristics: Height is 4.3 cm, width is 10.5 cm, rim diameter is 8.9 cm, and length is 13.2 cm Design features: The oval-shaped basket has a flat base and curved sides that narrow at the rim, built on a single foundation rod; a wide, steep zigzag pattern is woven from dyed bulrush, starting at the base and continuing up the lower sides; small triangles are scattered around the upper sides.
