Outward Opening Door Child Stop
thingiverse
My front door opens outwards due to the hurricane code here, so most of the child safety products on the market didn't work. The ones that we could use didn't work well. I wanted a way to be able to keep the door unlocked, but also stop my twaddler from getting outside since she's getting adventurous. This hook allows the door to open a few inches, which is enough to be able to manipulate it from the outside, but not enough for the child to get out. It's thin and flexible enough (printed in PETG) to easily move out of the way if you can reach it and the door knob at the same time (something a twaddler can't do). It should fit on most deadbolts. I recommend printing this mostly sold, or at least with thick walls so that the end is strong and the flexible part doesn't use any infill that could make it too stiff. Note that the hook alone will work, but cam'd across my door to the point where it wouldn't stay. This was easily solvable with a small piece of tape or a command strip. But to protect my door, I also designed a guard to fit around the door. This is very specific to my door and probably won't fit on yours, but I'm including it anyway. Also note that if you print one of the extremely tall ones, a couple of command strips or double sided tape can help keep it from rotating on the handle. Disclaimer: the big globs on top of the print in the picture were due to chunks of glass a previous print ripped off of my bed. I've just been avoiding replacing the bed for a while. Also, this might not work with genius babies.
