I use range outlets in the garage for all my 250V tools, welders, plasma cutter, even shop compressor... I do this because it's one of the least expensive options, and because having range plugs on my welders gives me alternative places to plug these things in. I have a gas range and a gas dryer, but have independent circuits and outlets in both my kitchen and laundry room. I made a 50 foot extension cord that has one of these outlets, but in a rectangular blue plastic outlet box. It's unsightly, but extension cords with this outlet configuration are simply unavailable. I made this cover to at least give the appearance of a proper cable end, and so it would be a bit more manageable while dragging the cord around. If I were so inclined, I could pack the cover with silicone and make it much more safe. Assembly is simply a matter of removing the three screws that hold the outlet to the included mounting plate, running the cord through the back of the cover, connecting the wires to the outlet, then screwing the face of the outlet to the cover. I then attach the strain relief portion to the back of the plug cover with two M4 x 8mm screws, and two M4 nuts. My test print was in PLA just to verify the fit and to see how it would look. When the weather warms up and I can print in the garage, I'll reprint it in black ABS. The black cover will give the extension cord a manufactured appearance. It should only be used printed in some type of high impact material. This housing should fit other standard length outlets of the same size.
