They're traveling problems: there's nothing to buy that would be really useful for a tour - something you can use on the go all the time. Even tin cups are incredibly hot because they're just metal, so you can't hold them at all - not even with gloves. And plates or better bowls are too hot in a simple canned pot: you can't hold them in your hands either. Boiling water is also a problem. The pan itself is only for boiling water, and if you want to make something else, it's just not suitable. So they made their own drinking cups and bowls with silicone cuffs that are heat resistant. Other parts followed, like outdoor burners, cutlery, and the rest!
