Bloodletting (or blood-letting) is the withdrawal of blood from a patient to prevent or cure illness and disease. Bloodletting, whether by a physician or by leeches, was based on an ancient system of medicine in which blood and other bodily fluids were regarded as "humours" that had to remain in proper balance to maintain health. It is claimed to have been the most common medical practice performed by surgeons from antiquity until the late 19th century, a span of over 2,000 years. Bloodletters are the foot soldiers of the blood god. The vast numbers of the Blood Legions are primarily made up of many cohorts of these crimson-skinned horned devils. They would like nothing more than to drag forth their sacrifices, rip open their jugulars and pour their contents into a massive mile-wide gore lake. All to appease their master's desires, for The Blood God cares not from whence the blood flows; only that it does. Each Bloodletter carries a massive two-handed greatsword. These swords are polished to an obsidian-black sheen, and glow white-hot with the daemon's power. Each one is formed from the Bloodletter's own essence, and can never be discarded or disarmed from the daemon's grasp. Any mortal slain by one of these blades has their soul added to the weapon's essence; strengthening the daemon's power and rage.
