Trench 2 at Wheldrake unearthed one small and two massive linear features. Eventually, we had to leave without excavating these, but they validated the geophysical survey findings – these features indeed are the enclosure ditches surrounding the round-house settlement. The Ouse and Derwent Project is a three-year community-driven initiative probing the Iron Age landscape in the Vale of York. Backed by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
