Our Lady Star Of The Sea Angel 1 - ReCap'd
thingiverse
The previous year, I utilized the Windows desktop version of 123D Catch to scan an intriguing statue. The result was impressive, and fortunately, all the images were preserved (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27091). Recently, Autodesk released a new professional web app called ReCap Photo (requires an Autodesk 360 subscription; http://recap.autodesk.com). I decided to upload the same photos used in the earlier scan into ReCap Photo, and the outcome was even better. Some details, like the cross on the chest, toes in the feet, and hand holding flowers, were missing in the initial scan but were now visible. The face texture appeared rougher, though, as it had been smoothed in Meshmixer during the old scan; this result was raw output after repair in Netfabb without any touchup. ReCap seems impressive, with manual stitching in the web version appearing better than 123D Catch's last time. Plus, it eliminates the need to reboot into Windows! A lesson learned: Save all your old 123D Catch photos because as new software is released over time, you can potentially obtain even better output by loading those images.
