The OUD instrument's history dates back to Farabi, who stated it was invented by Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam. Inspired by his deceased son's skeleton, the first oud had a distinct shape. The Iraqi culture highly values the oud, believing its music encapsulates the nation's soul. In the ninth century, a Baghdad jurist praised its healing properties and another writer noted it balanced temperament and revived hearts. However, post-2003 Iraq invasion, Islamic militants viewing secular music as sinful forced many oud players into hiding or exile.
