Otterbox Commuter Case Latch Replacement (iPhone 6/6s)
thingiverse
My second Otterbox Commuter Case Latch failed again, and I suspect it's due to a weak latch mechanism just above the spring notch. I've come up with a design improvement by adding more plastic to that area. If you're interested in modifying the design, I've shared my Fusion 360 model online - just click on this link: https://a360.co/2Wjda1j. The pin fits snugly into an interference fit, so I intentionally drilled the through hole slightly smaller than needed and then used a 5/64" drill bit at low speed to carefully ream out the hole. To achieve a perfect fit, I applied gentle side pressure around the hole until it was just the right size, and then tapped the pin gently into place with a hammer. To add extra strength to my design, I printed the case on its side, from front to back, which helps hold the phone securely in place. I used PLA material and set the printer to 4 perimeters for added durability, and made sure to include supports wherever necessary.
