Oswald Stencil is a fictional character and the protagonist of Anthony Burgess's 1962 dystopian novel A Clockwork Orange. He is a young man from a lower-class background who becomes involved with a gang of violent teenagers known as the "Droogs." The Droogs engage in ultra-violent crimes, such as rape, robbery, and murder, often for the sake of fun. Oswald's favorite phrase is "ultra-violence," which he uses to describe their activities.
