According to Wolfram Alpha, the Ostomachion is a 14-piece dissection puzzle attributed to Magnus Ausonius' notes on Archimedes' fragmentary manuscripts from around 310-395 A.D., making it one of the oldest known puzzles. In November 2003, Bill Cutler discovered that there are exactly 536 distinct possible arrangements of the pieces into a square, as illustrated above, where solutions equivalent by rotation and reflection are considered identical (Pegg 2003). Solving just one arrangement proves to be quite a challenge! Files can be named based on color, but these suggestions are purely optional - name them however you like.
