God Osiris, King of the Underworld - This is a scan of the small bronze sculpture now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. From artsmia.org: *The ancient Egyptian god Osiris is described as the powerful ruler of the Underworld, responsible for judging the dead and welcoming those considered righteous into eternal life. He became an iconic symbol of death, resurrection, and immortality. His divine power is represented by his funeral wrappings for mummification—a process reserved exclusively for pharaohs and members of the higher classes—and his crook and flail, which symbolized pharaonic authority. Ancient Egyptians would place symbols of Osiris on coffins and recite prayers in his name to protect the deceased in the afterlife.* The original sculpture stands 18cm (7") tall; this printed version is scaled down to about 10cm.
