As I stepped into the dimly lit laboratory, a faint hum of machinery echoed through the air, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The room was small, cramped, with metal shelves stacked haphazardly against one wall, and a large, ominous-looking device taking center stage. "Welcome to Whandle," a smooth voice announced from behind me, and I spun around to face the speaker. Dr. Emma Taylor, a brilliant scientist with a penchant for eccentric attire, stood grinning at me like a Cheshire cat. "Ah, you must be our new subject," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'm thrilled to have you on board." I raised an eyebrow. "Subject?" Dr. Taylor chuckled. "Well, not exactly. You see, Whandle is more of a... a collaboration. A partnership between humans and artificial intelligence." My mind reeled as I tried to process what she was saying. Artificial intelligence? Collaborative research? "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice shaking slightly. Dr. Taylor's grin grew wider. "Ah, that would be telling. Let's just say we're pushing the boundaries of human innovation. And I think you'll find it... enlightening." As she spoke, a cold sweat broke out across my forehead. Something didn't feel right. But before I could ask any more questions, Dr. Taylor was already ushering me toward the large device. "Let's get started," she said, her voice dripping with enthusiasm. And that's when everything went black.
