The Ormerod 2 Y axis has a tendency to twist, making the bed difficult to level up properly. I fixed this issue by strengthening the base of the machine. Update: Now available with an adjustable end plate version 2, which is slightly shorter and does not bind on the extrusion. A small brass shim was added beneath the idler screw as it tends to sink into the plastic over time, causing the belt to run out of true. Materials Used: * Aluminium angle 200 x 40 x 1.5, cut into two lengths at 210 * BR extrusion 20 x 40 x 350 with a 6mm slot * M4 T nuts and bolts * M3 nuts & bolts The stock Y-axis end plates were modified to remove the foot and extend them slightly. After printing, bolt them together and run a 12mm reamer through the rod holes to ensure they are parallel. If possible, hold the reamer in the drill press and rotate it manually so it is at right angles to the end plate without melting the plastic. The idler plate was based on MasonStonehenge's Y Idler Tensioner (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:529595). The motor mount was also modified from the stock design. The countersunk holes were removed to prevent splitting when tightening, and I replaced it with a solid surface at the front of the motor mount. Clamp the idler plate together with the angle and use the idler plate as a drilling template. Now bolt the new Y-axis end plates to the angle and idler plate and drill the remaining holes. The holes on the angle plate idler side need to be lengthened to allow for adjusting the front Y rod up and down. Bolt the angle at the sides and bottom to both pieces of extrusion to make a rigid frame. Depending on your bed carriage height, you may need to create small slots on the top of the angle plate to prevent it from catching, as shown in the photo. The frame still sits on three points; I found that adding a couple of layers of non-slip material under the front corners kept the whole machine nice and level. Print Settings: * Printer: Ormerod 2 * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Infill: 60% * Notes: Printed in ABS, but PLA would also work fine. The settings are not critical, but if printing in ABS, size to 101%
