Ormerod 2 tr8 DirectDrive Z Axis Redesign
pinshape
I decided to upgrade my Ormerod 2's Z Axis with a direct drive tr8 leadscrew, but the original position of the Z motor and the Z nut trap wouldn't work as expected. I rebuilt these elements to shift the motor away from the upright, giving it a new placement. The nuttrap also underwent a significant redesign, keeping its original footprint intact while adopting a completely different approach. Updated -v2 files now move the leadscrew slightly further out to provide extra clearance for the IR board. The lower Z brace and mount are moved outward by 5mm, while the nut trap is shifted out by 2mm. I had previously noted that during installation, the nut trap was inset from its intended position, which is why I only moved it out another 2mm. If more clearance is required, the nut trap can be shimmed off the X motor mount.
