A Mad Scientist, also known as a Tech Wizard or more often simply as an Engineer, is a type of Rebel Mastermind who build all the gadgets, gizmos, and other advanced technology used by the Rebels. Engineers are especially important to Rebel Speed Teams, as they maintain the prodigious amount of bikes and vehicles used by Rebel warbands. Rebel Engineers go to battle festooned in clanking, smoke-belching contraptions of their own design. These eccentric inventions confound friend and foe alike, as their purpose often remains a mystery until the big red button gets pushed. When triggered, an Engineer's latest invention might fire blasts of energy that immolate swathes of the enemy, or project wobbling bubbles of gravitic force to protect nearby Rebels from harm. On the other hand, it might belch showers of sparks before engulfing its operator and everyone nearby in a roiling ball of flame. Yet occasional malfunctions are forgiven by the Rebels, for even when an Engineer's temperamental new gadget does decide to explode, at least it gives the Rebels a good laugh. Without Engineers, Rebels would lack for light, power, transport, and even guns (they lack for sanitation regardless, but that's another story). Whenever a Rebel needs something built, be it a shiny new Blaster or the Leader's new ride, they go straight to the Engineers. Furthermore, a Rebel with extra credits will take existing kit to the nearest Engineer in the hope of having damage repaired, and maybe some customising done. It is a rare day that the customer gets what he asked for, but whatever the Engineer turns out will normally be fairly flashy all the same. The most important and skilled Engineers are known as "Master Engineers," who lead groups of lesser Engineers armed with a wide variety of Rebel custom equipment and Kombi-weapons, sometimes including even full warbands or whole Uprisings! armed with a large amount of less-than-conventional Rebel weaponry. A Master Engineer's mastery of technology is unsurpassed amongst the Rebel forces and a Master Engineer is often seen generating a "Custom Shield" around himself that protects his person and his creations. A Master Engineer who becomes the leader of a Rebel Uprising will be known as an "Engineer-General."
