Orihon (Accordion Book)

Orihon (Accordion Book)

thingiverse

I have created a 3D printed book prototype, inspired by textures and reliefs from architectural designs in Chicago. It was motivated by a call for submissions from the Center for Book and Paper at Columbia College. To avoid long printing times, I used modular hinges and surfaces with tbusers pins. The accordion-style book features six 3D scans: three of my own and one each from Jason Bakutis/The Met, Pretty Small Things, and AMinimal Studio. Created with photogrammetry apps, the scans are explained on the "front cover" along with Creative Commons licensing information. The "back cover" lists the works. This prototype showcases a functional modular hinge system and potential for future wall-mounted relief systems or column designs. However, some improvements can be made, such as perfect page stacking and adding separators between pages. For more of my artworks, visit tomburtonwood.com.
