Replace the GPU fan on your Xbox 1.0 version with this adapter and a 40x40x10mm fan.\r\n\r\nXbox models 1.1 through 1.6 did not have a GPU fan, making this modification exclusive to launch edition model 1.0 owners. To ensure successful installation, save the original GPU screws for attaching the adapter to the heatsink. It's helpful to drive the screws into the adapter before mounting it, stopping when you see the screw slightly poking through the other side of the adapter.\r\n\r\nYou don't need fan screws to secure the Noctua (or another 40x40x10mm fan) to the adapter - it's a press fit that clamps the fan firmly to the heatsink.\r\n\r\nWhen selecting a fan, be sure to choose one rated for 12 volts. A 5v fan will quickly fail when connected to the 12v fan header. The Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX 12v version is an example of the model I used. Remember that the Dreamcast also uses a 40x40x10 Noctua fan, but it operates at 5 volts, so be sure to check the sticker on the fan for its voltage rating.\r\n\r\nThis Noctua fan has slightly lower CFM than stock (4.82 to 5.7), making high-quality thermal paste between the GPU and heatsink a recommended upgrade when switching to a lower CFM fan.
