Original Prusa I3 MK3 Upgrade
thingiverse
Hello Folks, I've upgraded my original Prusa I3 MK3 with anodized aluminum parts, which has replaced almost all printed parts. The upgrade is still in progress, and I'll try to document it as I go along. The X-Motor and X-Idler part have been overhauled due to changes in the current MK3 R3/B7 version. If you have a R3/B7, the rod holes on the X-Motor part should be 35 mm instead of 28 mm in the previous version. I've also created a drill tool for the X-Idler, which allows you to tap M4 inside afterwards for fine-tuning the X-rods. The Y-Belt Tensioner is great, but you'll need to add a washer on each side. I've replaced the pulley with a 20-tooth GT2 pulley and used high-quality Contintale belt that's perfect for use. All bearings have been replaced with low-noise, low-friction original Misumi LM8UU bearings. For lubricating rods and leadscrews, I'm using Lithium grease from Kloiber, which has yielded excellent results. After seeing great printing results with a Merlin Hotend V3 that uses an airbrush nozzle for printing, I've come up with an idea for an adapter for the E3D v6 Hotend. On one side, you have the M5 thread that goes into the E3D v6 heater block, and on the other end, you have a 1.7mm thread for the airbrush nozzle.
