Organized Pencil Holder

This cleverly designed pencil holder, created by AveryM and 18truongj, expertly separates various writing instruments. From colorful pencils to pens and crayons, this model has a designated space for each item. Our design boasts six distinct compartments, all varying in height, allowing every type of writing utensil to be visible from its specific compartment. This pencil holder is incredibly useful for everyone, regardless of the writing instrument they use. Project: MakerEd Project Objectives Students will explore and create a unique pencil holder that accommodates all types of writing tools. Audiences This pencil holder project is perfect for young children who need to organize their crayons as well as adults who must keep track of their writing inventory, making it suitable for all audiences. Preparation Before starting the project, students should have knowledge of fractions to determine the desired compartment size and quantity. Additionally, a background in the inventor program will be necessary to create the pencil holder. Steps Begin by sketching on the XY plane. Draw a circle with a diameter of 5 inches. Extrude the circle 0.5 inches to serve as the base for the pencil holder. On the front face of the base, draw eight even sections using the line tool from the center of the circle base, each section spaced 45 degrees apart. Draw lines 0.125 inches away from the original lines to create additional sections. Draw another 5-inch diameter circle on top of the base. Trim any overlapping lines to result in eight sections with 0.125-inch "walls" between them for organizing the holder. Extrude the first section 4.5 inches, creating the initial organized compartment. Continue extruding each subsequent section at a slightly shorter height, ideally in increments of 0.5 inch. Once all sections have been extruded, a circular pencil holder with compartments for each writing utensil will be complete. Results Upon completion, students are left with an imaginative and well-organized pencil holder. Each compartment has a unique height tailored to the student's writing instruments. Ideas for grading should focus on the practicality of each compartment and the creativity invested in designing them. Whether the compartments appear identical or exhibit different shapes, every student will possess their own original pencil holder.
