<p>My daughter loves playing chess, but the <a href="https://www.printables.com/model/72315-organic-chess-2021">magnificent pieces</a> by <a href="https://www.printables.com/social/1815-ntx9/about">NTX9</a> often fall out the original box when she tries to relocate.</p><p>Therefor I made a remix that allows for a lid to slide in front of the pieces. The lid is of course based on the pieces themselves, but with added supports for printing purposes.</p><p>The box itself is also modular. The same sliding mechanism is in place at the bottom so you can add 2 (or more) boxes together.</p><p><strong>How to print</strong></p><ul><li><strong>The lid</strong><ul><li>I've printed mine in PLA (Prusament recycled + Oh My Gold / Marble).<ul><li>You can change color on 4.40mm to emphasize the chess pieces.</li></ul></li><li>Print lying on its back.</li><li>Layer height: 0.15mm<ul><li>You can use 0.2mm from layer height 0.00 to 4.40 to speed things up.</li></ul></li><li>2 perimeters</li><li>Infill: 20% support cubic works well.</li><li>Supports:<ul><li>I've used snug supports</li><li>with a overhang threshold of 12°. This should result in some easy to remove supports on the knights, towers and queen.</li><li>the slide extrude does not require supports (<strong>read below!</strong>)</li></ul></li><li>Brim: 2mm advised (<strong>read below!</strong>)<br>&nbsp;</li></ul></li></ul><figure class="image image-style-align-center"><img src="https://media.printables.com/media/prints/314949/rich_content/9215c887-136f-4549-961e-50ecf23f4f5b/image.png#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22f3af0ef8-1d60-469e-bd79-fc0a690f64f5%22%2C%22w%22%3A1282%2C%22h%22%3A709%7D"></figure><ul><li><strong>The box</strong><ul><li>I've printed mine in PLA (Prusament recycled)</li><li>Print lying on its back.</li><li>Layer height: 0.20mm</li><li>2 perimeters</li><li>Infill: anything you want as long as it's fine enough to bridge for all the surfaces. I've used 30% lightning which works marvelous.</li><li>Supports are not required (<strong>read below!</strong>)</li><li>Brim: 2mm advised (<strong>read below!</strong>)</li></ul></li></ul><figure class="image image-style-align-center"><img src="https://media.printables.com/media/prints/314949/rich_content/5fd71711-85a3-49d3-9210-5289e61bd3b0/image.png#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22c50f1dbf-6c1b-4563-9deb-56b4606a75a8%22%2C%22w%22%3A1293%2C%22h%22%3A846%7D"></figure><p><strong>Note about supports and brim</strong></p><p>I've had issues with the extruded slides where the smallest piece (outside) would detach from the print plate and warp upwards. Prints with supports in the slide (without brim) or with a 2mm brim seems to be working. Use what you think works best on your machine!</p><p>Manually adding a rectangle in PrusaSlicer to use as a brim is also a possibility but I haven't used it personally.</p><figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.printables.com/media/prints/314949/rich_content/72be8a7d-1b2a-445b-80c7-349e34c45187/image.png#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%228b80725c-5c35-475a-89e1-1d521b9efab1%22%2C%22w%22%3A634%2C%22h%22%3A351%7D"></figure></td><td><figure class="image"><img src="https://media.printables.com/media/prints/314949/rich_content/10fa2dc5-886f-4789-93a4-ec23985f5f77/image.png#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%22aac8d649-1016-474d-bbab-6ed454630973%22%2C%22w%22%3A902%2C%22h%22%3A511%7D"></figure></td></tr><tr><td>Brim of 2mm. The rest of the box/lid doesn't really need the brim though.</td><td style="width:50%;">A (snug) support also helped prevent warping. You need to clean the supports out thoroughly if you want a smooth slide.</td></tr></tbody></table></figure><p><strong>Tolerances</strong></p><p>Note that I've designed the tolerances off the slide to work on my machine (a Prusa mini). Since my printbed is only 180mm, my prints are scaled down to 85% off the original (5% extra to account for brim)!&nbsp;<br>Please comment with constructive feedback how the tolerances are if you print it at full scale.</p><p><strong>Support</strong></p><p>If you like my effort, give this design a like and share makes!</p>
