Orca v04x: MK8 Gear upgrade (4mm)
thingiverse
Despite the superior grip offered by Camiel's Hobbed Shaft over the Orca v3 pulley, I continue to encounter slippery filament. Therefore, I heeded the advice of a seasoned rep rapper and decided to upgrade to the MK8 gear. However, this gear comes with a 5mm bore, which is not compatible with my existing configuration that utilizes m4 bolts and bearings. To resolve this issue, I modified JackT's extruder derivative to accommodate the original bearings but integrate the MK8 gear in the middle section. This adaptation requires distinct holes for filament passage and component mounting on the baseplate. As the project is still in progress, it is not recommended to print these parts just yet, and other components are yet to be added. Please give me a like before attempting to collect this update! Thomas www.3daybreaker.blogspot.com Update 2014-08-04: My initial prints necessitated minor adjustments. It was discovered that the holes for mounting are not precisely aligned with each other, and the idler fails to make contact with the filament. I have already begun working on Version 2 in design mode. Update 2014-08-06: I have redesigned the bottom piece to feature aligning holes and additional idler space. I want to stress that, if you don't already possess JackT's extruder, it is highly recommended that you procure the remaining components from his resource page. Print the two parts with 40% infill and solidify layers every fifteenth iteration. The "TOP" piece necessitates support on my printer setup. Place the bottom piece above the hot end, aligning a filament straight into the hot end as a guide. Mark new holes in the base plate for optimal placement. Mount the top piece to the bottom section with original bolts and reassemble the idler segment using the provided instructions. To assemble this configuration, you will require some additional hardware components: * Bearings measuring 13mm with a 5mm bore: You can find these bearings on http://nl.aliexpress.com/item/10Pcs-695Z-5mm-x-13mm-x-4mm-Miniature-Deep-Groove-Radial-Ball-Bearings/1750603536.html * A 5mm bolt measuring between 64 and 65 mm in length * Several 9mm washers with a bore diameter of 5mm * A self-sealing hex nut that accommodates a 5mm aperture
