Orca 042 Cable Chain Set 001
thingiverse
The original design of Orca benefits from clean and robust cable management. To improve this, I adapted Rotoscan's derivative of Landrus' cable chain, creating a chain on all axes. For easier movement, I increased the hole size by 5%. I also allowed for some backward bending in the initial version but corrected it in the provided files (untested). Future derivatives should feature openable links, while Y-links should be slightly shorter and Z-links larger for optimal curve fit. Printing was done with a 0.3mm layer thickness using a 0.5 nozzle and 3mm filament, resulting in smooth movement after adjustments. Before printing, ensure the squarenes of X and Y are verified on thingiverse.com/thing:12820. The X uses 13 links of 22mm, Y uses 17 links of 16mm, and Z uses 14 links of 22mm. Attachment instructions for the X, Y, and Z carriages are provided. Rewiring cables can be challenging, so future designs should include openable links for ease of redesigning.
