Orca 0.4x 2x 624 bearing idler
thingiverse
Initially, I faced issues with the filament deviating from its course when loaded with the barrel. To solve this problem, I considered adding two bearings to guide the filament properly to the barrel. After implementing this solution, I can now conveniently load the filament even while the printer is still printing, an operation that used to be challenging for me earlier. Additionally, the filament seems to have better grip, which might be due to the 'v' shape of the bearings pressing slightly into the filament. However, my extruder now resembles a Christmas decoration. The original 4mm bar is not suitable for this modification as it does not fit 624 bearings; SKF 624 bearings have an insufficiently large inner diameter for the 4mm bar to fit without pressing it on. Instead, I used a chopped down M4 bolt, approximately 20-25mm long, to fit the bearings with washers on either side.
