Orca 0.43 Y-axis HGR15 and HGH15CA linear carriage and raceway upgrade
thingiverse
This upgrade enhances y-axis stability significantly and simplifies bed leveling due to having only one rail. The original 'frog' had a cutout for drilling holes, allowing just two hole placements. A take-up piece is used with penny washers for support. The new design increases y-axis travel by 30mm, as the carriage measures only 61mm long, while previous limits were the bearing housings (101.5mm end to end). Further belt clamp adjustments could provide an additional 20-30mm, resulting in a larger, more squared bed. The upgrade also offers extra z-height due to the lower position of the linear carriage and rail compared to old bearings. An updated jig allows for central carriage mounting within the frog, fitting into the side with a single bearing. Motor relocation to the right side is necessary, along with turning it around (change #define INVERT_Y_DIR to true). Belt bearings must be mounted on the other side of the motor mount. To install, use the jig to drill two new holes in the frog for the carriage's 26mm square holes. Secure the carriage with four M4x10 hex bolts and penny washers, along with a take-up piece. Remove support pieces from hex holes and replace them with nylock nuts for tight fitting. Mount the raceway to the frame using M4x20mm cap head bolts, positioning it approximately 50mm from the right z-axis mount plate.
