In Malay, "orang" signifies a human being, while "utan" is derived from the word "hutan," which translates to forest. Thus, orangutan literally translates to person of the forest. These remarkable creatures possess extraordinary strength, allowing them to branchiate and hang upside-down from branches for extended periods, all in pursuit of fruit and young leaves. Much like humans, orang-utans are extremely intelligent, consistently performing at par with chimpanzees and gorillas in cognitive ability tests.
