Orange Extruder
thingiverse
For a great balance between speed and resolution, I needed a reduction of about 2:1 for my 3D printers, but all the available extruders I found had a gear ratio of approximately 5:1. So I designed this Extruder in early 2015 to replace the direct drive extruders I used previously on my 3D printers. It's been working very accurately and dependably so I decided to share it. Changing filaments can be done quickly by pushing the lever up a little. Technical Data: Filament Size: 1.75mm Bowden Push Fit: Designed for M5 Filament Pulley: Ø6.5 mm Gear Reduction: 20:41 -> 1:2.05 Steps per mm (1.8° Stepper with 16 MS): 310 steps/mm Max mm/s for Retractions (12V, Pololu A4988 on Ramps 1.4): Over 70mm/s Update: I turned the lever by 90° so it's printable right away. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Lots Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 20 Notes: I recommend support "touching buildplate" for Orange_Extruder_MainBodyRC1_Support.stl. All the other parts should print fine without. Post-Printing Parts Needed for Assembly Cut M5 Threads Here Insert the 605zz Bearings Join the Small Gear and the Nema 17 Stepper Motor Like This Mount the Motor and the Base Plate with 4x M3x10 and Washers as Seen Here Don't Fasten the Filament Pulley Yet Insert a M5 Nut in the Big Gear. Mount the Big Gear - Don't Forget to Add an M5 Washer in Between. Add a 2nd M5 Nut Onto the Bolt As Seen in the Picture. Hold the Big Gear-Wheel and Fasten the 2nd M5 Nut Against It to Secure It from Loosening Itself During Printing. Align the Pulley and Fasten It. Gently Screw the M5x8 Bolt into the Lever to Secure the 605zz Bearing Which Will Push the Filament Against the Pulley. Use the Long M3 Bolt to Join the Lever and the Extruder. Place Some M3 Washers in Between Each Part. M5x25 Bolt, 2 Washers, and a Spring to Load the Lever. You Can Increase the Force by Tightening the Bolt.
