OPV-81 "Piloto Pardo" Offshore Patrol Vessel Year: 2007 Displacement: 1,810 Tons Propulsion Power 2 Wartsila model 12V26 engines of 4,080 KW each 3 Caterpillar 3412 generator sets producing 380 KW each Armament: 1 40/70 mm gun mount 6 .50 caliber machine guns Maximum Speed: 21 knots Length: 80.60 meters Beam: 13 meters Depth: 6.50 meters Draft: 4.50 meters The Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) was designed by FSSMER, in accordance with the requirements of the Chilean Navy, being a modern vessel built by the Navy's Shipyards and Workshops (ASMAR), and certified by Lloyd's Register of Shipping that meets all current international regulations, such as SOLAS and MARPOL. Construction of this new Unit began in 2006, within the Danubio IV project. On June 14, 2007, the "Piloto Pardo" was christened. This patrol boat, with a total displacement of 1,810 tons, has its home port in Talcahuano, and is equipped to operate along the entire coastline, safeguarding approximately 27 million square kilometers of maritime search and rescue area responsibility, which, according to international agreements, belongs to Chile. It performs the following roles: Maritime Jurisdiction Zone Surveillance and Control, Search and Rescue in the National Maritime Responsibility Zone, Aquatic Pollution Control and Combat, Support for Maritime Signaling Maintenance, and Logistics Support to Isolated Areas. Its crew consists of 12 officers and 32 sailors, who form the human group that operates this Unit to fulfill its roles. Throughout its seven years of service, the ship has participated in numerous multinational exercises such as Panamax, Unitas, and Cruz del Sur. It is the second ship of the Navy to bear the name of Pilot 1st Luis Pardo Villalón, an illustrious sailor who entered history for rescuing the crew of the "Endurance" in 1916, while he was commander of the sloop "Yelcho".
