By optimizing the original design, a volume reduction of 67.5% was achieved. This feat was made possible through GrabCAD and GE's challenging event, and the utilization of additive manufacturing with Ti-6Al-4V. In order to minimize volume, layers were designed successively, enabling efficient load transfer between each layer. Finite element method (FEM) aided in understanding this load transfer and maximizing the design accordingly. This resulted in similar max Von Misses stresses across the four load scenarios.
