Optimized 3D Printed Ball and Socket Joint
thingiverse
I'm tweaking my original 2-lobed design by combining two interlocking pieces that form a 4-lobed socket. This optimized setup allows for printing in a flat configuration, maximizing the overall strength of the component. With vertical lobes similar to those found on ball joints, layers are less likely to split apart. However, this redesign comes with one notable drawback - hex screws can no longer be used, and flat head screws must take their place instead. The #6 and #8 options work well in this scenario, providing a suitable substitute for the missing #3mm and #4mm equivalents.
