Delivery drone containers are vital spaces where delivery drones store their cargo safely. The purpose of a delivery drone container is to protect its payload from potential damage and maintain it at an optimal state until arrival. To create a dependable and effective delivery drone container, I aimed to design one that achieves high carrying capacity without adding excess weight. Consequently, this has led to reduced battery consumption and higher efficiency for drones equipped with these containers. For a foundation of my design, I performed static loading simulations under various usage scenarios, such as estimated maximum loads, gravitational forces, pull and press forces on the sides of the container, to identify its behavior and reaction patterns under diverse operating conditions. In doing so, I employed the Finite Element Method in an analysis tool for accurate and detailed data collection. My workflow involves drafting the primary shape of the container through basic form design principles, analyzing stress responses under specified loading patterns, using generative design optimization algorithms to minimize material waste and ensure efficient structure, reviewing results from each process and integrating them for finalization. During this process, I used ABS plastic as the primary construction material within available simulation constraints. Further suggestions are offered by 3D printing practitioners regarding alternative materials. By evaluating these processes, critical information is derived from stress response analyses including load patterns across container positions and load acceptance capacities at key locations, facilitating more efficient production. This detailed project is shared to encourage adoption or improvement of similar designs, and further refinement as may be necessary to accommodate unique specifications.
