Optical Top
thingiverse
Spinning top created from repurposed CD/DVD media. I could mention AOL disks, but that would be a bit of a nostalgic giveaway. Inspired by gsyan's design on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1337135 Printed on my Anet A8 using MatterControl 1.7 with the following settings: * Layer height: .2 mm * Infill percentage: 30% * Perimeters: 3 * Top layers: 3 * Bottom layers: 3 The domed base took 59 minutes to print, resulting in a disk that measures 34mm x 17mm and weighs 6.16g of PLA. The pointed base printed in 49 minutes, with dimensions 34mm x 17mm and a weight of 3.91g of PLA. The stem required 80 minutes to print, measuring 20mm x 40mm and weighing 6.26g of PLA. The marble base took the longest to print at 80 minutes, measuring 34mm x 26mm with marble filling (21mm without) and weighing 7.45g of PLA. Adding more disks increases the mass and spin time. I've successfully used up to six disks in this design. The stem features a shoulder that aligns with a 15mm hole, while the bases fit snugly into the hub ridge on the underside of each disk. Fusion360 was used for designing this spinning top.
