Optical Tachometer for Bedini 3-pole Kit

An optical tachometer is included in the Bedini 3-Pole Monopole motor kit. It bolts onto pre-existing extra holes using nylon screws. The tachometer features a design for a 5mm IR LED and a 5mm IR photo-transistor, both of which can be sourced from Radio Shack. There is also a small wire channel on the back side for the LED or sensor. To set up the tachometer, it should fit tightly onto the rotor shaft; however, you may need to secure it with u-tac, tape or bolt for added stability. The wheel's positioning should be as close to the IR LED as possible for accurate RPM readings. A larger diameter wheel with additional gates might improve functionality by providing finer granularity in each revolution, especially at higher speeds.
